Turkish Airlines has agreed a new three-year premium partnership deal with Borussia Dortmund – an announcement that came just hours after the 1.Bundesliga club defeated Real Madrid 4-1 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The deal confirms Turkish Airlines’ position as Dortmund’s airline of choice for all international flights. In addition, the agreement will also see the two parties work together on a range of joint activities and programmes throughout the next three years.
Turkey national team player Nuri Şahin is currently back on loan at the club after enjoying a successful spell there previously, while several Turkish players are currently playing in Dortmund’s ‘II’ side and youth academy. Star midfielder İlkay Gündoğan also has strong Turkish roots but is a German national.
“We are excited to accompany Borussia Dortmund on its path towards success in the near future and are looking forward to a fruitful partnership,” said chairman of Turkish Airlines, Hamdi Topçu. “Turkish Airlines and Borussia Dortmund share a similar success story. Dortmund has a very notable set of players, many of them young and successful – the company also invests heavily in talent building. Several of the Borussia Dortmund players are also members of both the German and Turkish national teams.”
