DFB doubles up with commercial extensions

The German Football Association (DFB) has been boosted by the ongoing commitment of two major partners with Commerzbank and DEKRA both signing extensions to their deals.

Having partnered the DFB since 2008, Commerzbank has agreed a four-year extension to its premium partnership, which will now run through to June 2016. The financial institution will continue to support Germany’s national teams and the agreement comes after the DFB last week extended its premium partnership with Coca-Cola. The organisation’s premium partner portfolio also includes Lufthansa, Deutsche Post, Mercedes-Benz, T-Mobile, REWE, Sony, Nivea for Men, Allianz, Bitburger and McDonald’s.

Martin Zielke, a member of the retail management board of Commerzbank, said: “The campaign with the national football team supports our growth in the retail banking business. The team receives our absolute backing and support, and will help promote our services prior to the European Championships.”

Safety, quality and environmental services provider DEKRA will continue in its role as the official sponsor of German referees for a further three years through to June 2015. The company will also assist the DFB in the field of environmental sustainability through its partnership with the DFB Cup. DEKRA chairman, Stefan Koelbl, said: “Neutrality, expertise and reliability – these values characterise both DEKRA and the DFB’s referees. Our sponsorship strategy has contributed to increasing the already high brand awareness of DEKRA.” DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach added: “Our sponsors pay a lot for the development of football and our partnership with DEKRA serves to promote the idea of fair play and why we need well-trained referees.”
