Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A giant Corinthians has opened its first football school outside Brazil.

The reigning club world champion has chosen the United States for its first ‘Kick Start’ centre, with the facility located in the Californian city of Fontana. The school already has 105 students enrolled in classes held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with teams competing at weekends representing the Corinthians Soccer Academy. The Sao Paulo club said the US launch was the first part of an international expansion of its football schools, with further proposals being examined in Lima, Peru and Lisbon, Portugal.

“The Corinthians Soccer Academy has acquired a plot of four acres in the city of Fontana for the construction of a facility featuring three soccer fields, locker rooms and a snack bar with complete infrastructure for soccer practice,” said Josias Baptista, owner of the school.

Corinthians official Roberto Toledo added: “With the professional work being done, I’m sure that our first international school will have a very large growth and support the growth of the sport in the US.”
